Among the too small fonts, ads and pop-ups that appear everywhere, the comfort of reading on a mobile remains poor.
The new playback mode of Google Chrome
When we talk about smart phones, we often think about screen size, processor power or RAM size, but rarely about reading comfort. And yet, this question is far from anecdotal.
We spend an average of over 3 hours a day in front of our smartphone screens. Obviously, all this is not without consequences for the health of our poor students.
In order not to tire our eyes unnecessarily, there are several tools that are supposed to improve the reading comfort of web pages. This is the case, for example, with the Pocket or Yooboox application.
It is one of the most useful applications on an Android smartphone. With it, you can not only save an article to read later, but also change the text font, change the background color and even remove any element that may affect the comfort of reading, such as menus or ads.
Also in the Google Play apps or inApp Store you can find a great variety of premium apps to customize your cell phone in reading mode, you can take advantage of great online discounts on some special pre-sales days.
Activate Chrome playback mode in Android
However, use of these tools requires that you download a third-party application. When you start running out of storage space, this is not necessarily the optimal solution.
So, to avoid wasting time sorting your photos and music, here’s a tip to activate the playback mode directly integrated into Google Chrome.
This new option offers in a few details the same functionalities as the tools presented below. You can extract text from a web page and display it on a flat background without advertising or sidebar.
You’re probably wondering how I don’t know about the function of the game mode. Don’t worry, it’s normal. The Chrome web browser for Android smartphones has many hidden and experimental features.
The play command, like many other functions, is activated from a hidden menu called flags. If you are an avid reader of Prodgmeobile.com, you probably already know how to access it. For others, here is an update session.
- Open the Google Chrome web browser
- Type in the search bar chrome://flags taking care of the test there are no spaces between each character
- Press the Ok button
- Then enter the word “Read mode” in the search flag field.
- Click on the multiple choice button and select the option Always.
- Then press the Reset button to restart Chrome.
Don’t you see the read mode activation option in the Android hidden options? No wonder. The latest versions of Google Chrome have Reader Mode natively integrated into the browser settings.
You can activate it very easily from the application menus. We explain you how it works.
- Launch Google Chrome
- Press the menu button (3 point) on the right hatch
- Click on the settings
- Scroll down to the Advanced Settings section.
- Select the Accessibility option
- Check the simplified view checkbox for web pages
- Then go back to the Chrome home page.
Using Chrome Playback Mode : Read mode
Google Chrome’s playback mode (also known as simplified view) emphasizes simplicity. It is easy to use and not particularly difficult to use. It is launched directly from the browser interface.
- Open the web page whose screen you want to change
- Click on the banner at the bottom of the screen.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Chrome is then in charge of showing a lighter version of the site.
- Press the Menu button
- Select the Settings option to change the font size and background color.
If you wish to return to the original version of the website, simply click on the small cross in the upper left corner. The simplified view function, although very practical, can sometimes be improved.
In fact, some sites block the display of articles when ads and pop-ups are not present on the screen.
