Some women suffer skin alterations before or after menstruation. For example, they may get pus rashes on the face, neck, and décolleté.
This alteration can become chronic, but it is always possible to treat it with natural means.
It is true that the menstrual cycle correlates with the state of the skin. After ovulation and until menstruation produces more sebum. This can lead to the proliferation of bacteria which, in turn, leads to folliculitis type infections.
On the other hand, contraceptive methods, either oral or ring, maintain high estrogenic levels that cause the lipid quantity of the skin to decrease. And there are cases of special sensitivity to progesterone that with small hormonal increases increase sebaceous secretion.
As for progesterone, this, in principle, is not found in cosmetics. However, in this case creams containing placenta or derivatives should be avoided, as this organ, involved in the maintenance of pregnancy in mammals, is rich in it.
Cosmetics containing disruptors – parabens, chemical filters, phthalates, synthetic perfumes and diethanolamine, among others – are always unadvisable. They can produce structural changes in hormones, altering their cycles and causing them to have unpredictable and dangerous effects that can lead to disease.
They should always be avoided, and more so in the case of this type of skin, with high sensitivity and high levels of fat. The cosmetics with ecological or natural certification are a guarantee in this sense.
You should take extreme care to cleanse the skin. It uses a cosmetic without irritating surfactants (a vegetable oil soap with natural or ecological certification, for example) and incorporates cleaning into the morning and evening routine, with special attention to the days following ovulation.
After that, a natural astringent tonic such as witch hazel or rose water should be used.
To moisturize and nourish, you could use a cream free of mineral oil derivatives that can clog the pore. Almond or jojoba oils are especially recommended.
Finally, food should be as healthy as possible: no pre-cooked, industrial or fried foods. In any case, fruit and vegetable intake should be increased.
