For walls the spray is also recommended. However, you may need to invest in a compressor and special packaging for paints.

Spray Painting Tips and Tricks

This type of equipment requires maintenance, but saves a lot of paint, prevents back pain and the finish is unique.

After a while using aerosol paints we can give you a couple of very useful tips that you can apply when using this type of paint in your home. Well, enjoying a perfect, smooth finish to spray paint requires a certain amount of experience.

Know the product you are going to paint with

They can be cans or a compressor, read the instructions carefully before starting to paint. With the aerosols in a can, shake it firmly, then place it upside down, press the plunger and release a little gas to clean the nozzle, then you can paint.

For compressors you must first prepare the paint, usually this requires the paint and a thinner. To clean the compressor nozzle, the diluent must be sprayed.

Choose the right paint for the surface you are going to paint and clean the surfaces

In addition to choosing the best paint you can find, you should also check that it is special for the surface you plan to decorate. There are finishes for wood, appliances, water-based, and many more, choose wisely.

And of course, buy the necessary quantity, you can damage a good finish if the paint runs out and you must buy more.

Learn from memory the time of drying to the tact, total drying and the one of repainting. They're different and you mustn't confuse them. Each manufacturer and type of paint has its own time periods.

There are also surfaces that require sanding, the wood requires sanding with soft grit sandpaper to better fix the paint. Plastic, melanin and formica don't require it.

Remove dust and dirt from the surfaces you want to paint with isopropyl alcohol, it evaporates and does not interfere with the paint you apply later.

Use the paint in a ventilated place and protect your health and surroundings

It may seem silly to protect yourself and paint in ventilated areas, but spray paints have chemicals like propane, n-butane, isobutane that you don't want in your lungs or your blood.

To protect an area you don't want to paint, you must cover it with at least two layers of newspaper or a thick cloth, as a drop of paint can pass through the paper and stain the surface underneath.

Use a suitable support for the object you want to paint and arm yourself with patience, because you will need to paint the areas you left unpainted and for this you must wait until the paint dries to repaint.

To protect yourself, you need to:

  • Mask: if it is for better gases, those that have a filter.
  • Gloves: Essential if you do not want to stain your hands excessively, better if they are latex.
  • Handkerchief for hair or hat: The spray is dispersed and falls in the least thought out places, better prevented than wearing an unwanted dye on your hair.
  • Protective Lenses: Absolutely necessary if you don't want your eyes to be irritated by paint.

Remember, it is preferable to overprotect yourself than to have to visit the emergency room due to an accident when inhaling paint. With the above tips, even people with asthma (always have your inhaler handy) or anyone with allergies (take an allergy medicine one hour before painting) can paint.

When painting with acrylic enamels or epoxy paint, spread your skin and surfaces that you do not want to paint with moisturizer, that way the paint will not cling and will be easy to clean.

To remove stains you can use cleansing towels.

If you're going to use a can, invest in a paint gun.

These guns adapt to cans and make painting easier. Pressing with the index finger on the nozzle can become very tiring after a few minutes. The pain it causes is transferred to your wrist and arm being something very annoying that could damage your work.

Shake the can long enough

The cans contain a ball of glass or metal whose job is to facilitate the union of gases and heavy components of paints.

Shake vigorously for at least 3 minutes so that the paint and propellant gases mix well.

The first jet should be directed towards a piece of cardboard or another surface that you don't mind painting. Try directing it with the can down to remove obstructions.

When painting with Aerosol:

Keep the boat in a vertical position in front of the surface you are going to paint, to avoid the formation of drops that fall on the surface you are painting. You can tilt the container a little if you wish.

Constantly clean the nozzle, as drops of paint form that can fall and splash your work.

You must paint keeping the container 25 cm from the surface to be painted. Make smooth movements, neither too fast nor too slow to avoid jets and drops.

Paint the most difficult areas first. If you paint the easy areas first, you can damage them later when you paint the difficult ones.

Make several thin coats, let them dry the right time between coats and repaint. So until you get the finish you want.

Do not paint if there is dust in the area, as spray paint tends to be very sticky. Dust and any type of dirt can stick while drying, damaging the finish.

What do I do if drops occur?

Pass a small stick with cotton and remove it, wait for the paint to dry and sand it with fine grain sandpaper. Use a thin coat of paint again to cover the damage.

After painting

When the paint is completely dry, wipe the floor with a damp mop. This will allow you to pick up all the powder paint, not bars because you will lift it up and can cause dirt.

Remember to scrub the floor as soon as possible to remove all paint stains.

I hope that these tips for spray painting have been very useful for you who want to start decorating your home and recover furniture or appliances in your home.
