Resolving the Message Memory Full message

If you see "Message memory full" on your mobile phone, the solution is simple: delete old messages. If it persists, the alternative is to make more space in the internal memory.

It is important to pay attention to this alert, as until it is resolved, new messages may not be received. Any incoming SMS will be rejected because no storage is available.

Delete messages (received or sent)

  1. Opens the Text Messages application.
  2. Put long pressure on a message you want to remove. It will be marked.
  3. Make a simple tap on other messages to mark them as well.
  4. Tap the "Delete" button.

If you don't want to lose your messages, before deleting them you can make a backup copy with SMS Backup & Restore or SuperBackup, the same copy that you will be able to keep in the SD card or in the cloud.

Instead of doing this manually, some Android devices come with an option that automatically deletes old messages. In the same SMS application, look for its "Settings" menu and activate the option that says "Delete old messages" or something similar.

Delete messages from the SIM card

  1. Opens the SMS application
  2. Tap the menu button (usually top right)
  3. Choose "Adjustments"
  4. "More adjustments."
  5. "Text messages."
  6. "Manage SIM card messages."

How to free up memory space

If the "Message memory full" message persists despite deleting messages in the above ways, you must delete things in the internal memory:

  • Use the space liberator that some cell phones bring: System Settings > Maintenance > Storage > Release.
  • Another simple thing you can do is uninstall applications or games: Settings > Applications.
  • You can also download a file manager to scan the internal memory for files you want to delete.

If you have problems, we have an article detailing these and other solutions for a full memory.

If SMS are being stored in internal memory, you'd better have 25 MB or more of available space. If this is not met, it is likely that the memory notification full of messages will continue to appear. And once you free the space, it is important that you reset the mobile to force the re-analysis of the memory.
