Microsoft is making its Office suite increasingly accessible with web applications. Available for free on the Internet (provided you have a Microsoft account), they can now be installed directly on Windows 10, here's how.

Microsoft Office is the best known office suite with Google Docs. Available for almost 30 years, it has evolved with the times and therefore is logically available as a web application.

The concept of Web App is simple: it is an application that is launched from a site web ; no software needs to be installed except a web browser. If you use Windows 10, you can access the Progressive Web App (PWA) version of Microsoft Office.

Here, the web application will be available directly on the desktop and will be launched without having to open the browser. You only need to be connected to the Internet.

The advantage over the full version of Microsoft Office is that this PWA is completely free and offers most of the features expected from an office suite.

Installing Microsoft Edge Chromium

To get started, you need to use the Microsoft Edge Chromium web browser, which may not be installed as a standard feature on your version of Windows 10. To make sure you're ready, make sure your version of Edge has this icon:

If this is the case, you can proceed to the next step. Otherwise, download and install the Chromium version of Edge from the Microsoft site.

Installation of Microsoft Office progressive web applications

When Microsoft Edge Chromium is installed on your computer, it's time to install the Office suite.

Start your browser and go to the Office website. If you have not already done so automatically, log into your Microsoft account. Office Web Apps requires an account and login to work.

The concept of Office 365 is similar to Google Docs. Your text files, spreadsheets or slide shows are stored in the cloud (thanks to the 5 GB available on OneDrive).

Just like the legendary applications of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. With Microsoft Edge, you can install these web applications directly on Windows.

To do this, open the application you want and in the Plus Menu of the browser, click on Install this site as an application.

The application is on the desktop and can be used without an internet browser as long as you are connected to the internet, and this gratuitement !
