Changing the background of a photo with Photoshop is easy from two photos, the one you want to change and the one that will provide its background.
Photoshop is perhaps the most popular photo-editing program in the world, although to use it correctly we must go in parts and understand each of its functions.
If you’ve taken a photo and want to change the background, for a nicer, better focused or more original, follow this step guide in which we explain how to change the background of a photo with Photoshop.
We know that Photoshop is a software, created by Adobe Systems Incorporated, which allows us to make high quality retouches in the images, thanks to a menu full of filters that provide the ability to modify the images as we like, whether photos at a professional level or in an amateur way.
In this short guide, we’ll take a step-by-step approach to replacing the background of a photo with Photoshop tools, even if you don’t have any particular knowledge or computer skills.
Steps to change the background of a photo with Photoshop
The first thing we must do is to install Photoshop on your personal computer, if it is not already installed.
You can buy the program with a regular license from Adobe’s official website. In the menu of the online store, select Photoshop, after paying by credit card, you can safely download to your device without risk of viruses and / or spyware.
Once the operation is finished, in the download folder you will find the executable file, clicking on it will start the installation wizard. Following step by step what the program asks you to do, in a few steps you will have Photoshop installed on your PC.
If you do not wish to continue with the purchase, you can download the free trial version for a limited time.
The first thing we do is start the Photoshop program, immediately access the software tab and immediately open the photograph to which we want to change the original background.
In a second tab, on the other hand, we open the image from which we are going to take the background.
For the first photo, select the “Magnetic Loop” tool (from the toolbar located on the left side of the screen) and select the part of the photo for which you want to keep the background. Then we press the upper button “Improve border” and we will see that the unselected part will disappear.
Always from the function “Improve border”, we will refine the borders of our selection to make it as regular as possible.
When we are satisfied with the result, click on the “OK” button to confirm and then simultaneously press the sequences “Ctrl + C” and “Ctrl + V” respectively to create a new level (at the bottom right there will be two levels, The original photo and the photo without background).
Now, from level 1 (the one just created), click on the “Move” tool and drag the image to the other tab (minimized), where it will appear with a large resolution.
At this point, we are going to click on “Ctrl + T” to make the resize line appear, then pressing the “Shift” key (to lock the proportions), we take an angle and reduce the size of the image. We put it in the part of the picture we want, we confirm and we will save the file we just modified.
If the image to be transported is a theme, before saving the work, we must go to change the size of the image to our liking (as much as it fits the theme), from the background level with the use of the tool “Cutter“.
Before concluding, it may be useful to use some fusion tools (“Inner Shadow”, “Inner Shimmer”, “Outer Shadow” and “Outer Shimmer” to make the result more realistic.
At this point, we only have to proceed to Save and choose the format, among those shown, in which our photo will be stored.
