1. Vinegar and white vinegar

If you have old tools covered with rust, there is nothing like a good scrub in a bath of vinegar or white vinegar.

Let them soak and then rub their rusty parts to remove all stains.

2. The soda

In your kitchen, do you have a kettle, a frying pan, a rusty knife and a spare soda in the fridge? You can soak your dishes directly in the queue.

The acid it contains will attack the rust and remove it.

3. Lime and salt

Some rusty objects cannot be soaked in solutions, such as pipes or tile joints.

Put the lime juice in the rust and then pour in the salt. The salt mixed with the lemon creates a chemical reaction that releases the acid contained in the fruit. Let it work for a good half hour.

Then soak a lemon cloth and rub. If the rust has not completely disappeared, repeat the process a second time.

If you have rust stains on your tiles, put salt on the stains and rub them with half a lemon. After allowing the juice to work, rinse with water.

4. The onion

Whether in stainless steel, carbon or other materials, onion is a good solution for removing the rust that has formed. Cut the vegetable in half and rub the stain directly on it.

5. The potato

A little advice from grandma to remove the rust from your metals is to rub the stains with a potato cut in half. The acid it contains attacks the rust and makes it disappear.

6. Bicarbonate of soda

For a more abrasive action on the rust, you can use baking soda with vinegar or potato.

For the baking soda and vinegar mixture, put on gloves and add one tablespoon of baking soda with one tablespoon of vinegar to a container.

Apply the solution to the rust and after 15 minutes, rinse with a damp sponge. For the baking soda and potato mixture, first cut the potato in half, then sprinkle the potato with baking soda and rub the rust.

Chemical solutions for cleaning rust stains

Some rust stains are more easily removed with chemicals. This is the case with stains on concrete or granite.

No extensive handling is necessary, just a few precautions: remember to wear gloves and keep products out of the reach of small hands.

1. Oxalic acid

To remove a rust stain on concrete, apply oxalic acid to a stiff bristle brush and rub. Rinse and wipe with a clean cloth.

2. Bleach

If you need to remove rust from a granite wall, lye is a good ally. Clean the stained surface with a bleaching sponge.
