What is the difference between a Proxy and a VPN?

Proxy and a VPN

Internet is the center of attention in our day to day, is a medium “Multipurpose” since from Internet we do all the tasks, from playing our favorite game, visit our usual websites, work, visit social networks, and many other uses.

It is well known that the network of networks is a site where everyone can access, we can find sites where we can navigate without problems, but in others not so much because Internet security is a little ambiguous, because you never know very well if the place we visit and / or what we do at a given time is endangering our privacy and / or security.Proxy and a VPN

There are many applications that help us in this task, from antivirus, to applications of all kinds of security that we find on the network, in the end, security on the Internet is in oneself.

One of the options to maintain our security, is to access the Internet using the network resources that we have at our disposal, for this we will see what it is and what serves a VPN and a Proxy.

What is a VPN?

Lately the concept of VPN is a bit distorted because there are many proxy configurations that resemble VPN, but we can say that a VPN allows us to connect through tunneling which basically consists of using a network protocol over another protocol, ie we use the local network protocol over the Internet protocol, so we get connected to certain points as if we were within a local network.

In general, a VPN is usually used to access services where access is blocked, such as to other countries, although its main function is safe browsing, or use for remote connections to work, or access content from an external local network from Internet access.

What is a Proxy?

A proxy can be defined in many ways, as there are several types, but broadly speaking, a proxy is a computer that we place in the middle of a communication between two or more computers, as an example we can say that a computer A wants to access a resource of a computer C, we can do it directly, or using a proxy that would be a computer B to which we connect from A, and in turn B connects to C, so that A is hidden for C, in computer B.

In addition to hiding a computer in the network, a Proxy can be used to monitor the traffic of computers that go to the Internet through the Proxy, to cache web pages, so that if at any time could not access the Internet web, the server would have that web stored, and so from the client computers can access the web.

It can also be used to filter the type of content that can be accessed from client computers.
