SIM

This is a problem that, even if we don't know the reason very well, can affect us completely.

smartphone doesn't recognize the SIM

The origin of this can be very diverse, as well as its solution. So if your smartphone doesn't recognize the SIM card you may find the solution here.

Check if the SIM card or slot is damaged

The first thing you need to check is whether the SIM card is working properly. If we place our SIM card in another smartphone, we will know if it works correctly. We must also check if the problem lies in the slot of our smartphone, by inserting another SIM card in our phone.

If our card doesn't work, all you can do is ask your phone company for a copy. It is not very common but SIM cards can be damaged either by moisture or by some bad contact.

If the problem is in the slot, we can try to clean it carefully. Sometimes the problem is contact with the plate.

For this there are some homemade solutions such as rubbing the tip of a pencil over the connections, as the graphite from the pencil helps to improve the contact. Other times it is enough to put a piece of paper on the SIM so that it presses on the contacts.

It may also have something to do with the device's software, but the worst thing that can happen is that the slot is broken and you have to change it. Before trying to repair it yourself, we recommend you visit the technical service.

Test with a factory reset

Before getting into a lot of trouble, the best thing to do is to carry out a factory restoration. This method will delete all your data, so don't forget to make a backup before proceeding. To make a restoration just go to Settings > Backup > Restore factory data.

Deactivating the mobile signal

This option can fix the problem if there is a network error. To do this we need to access one of the secret menus dialed from the phone *#*#4636#*#*. Now go to the Phone Information option.

Here, below you will find several options. Click on the one that says Deactivate mobile signal.

Wait a minute and activate it again. Reset the device and cross your fingers to see if it works.

Is the phone IMEI correct?

To do this we have to enter "*#06#" in the phone dialing and we will see the IMEI number. We checked to see if it matches the one in the box on our smartphone.

If so, it may be time to take it to the technician; if it does not match, we will have to take action.

What to do when the IMEI does not match?

First of all I want to explain why the IMEI may no longer coincide. If your smartphone is a Samsung, this is because the manufacturer, at one point and without really knowing why, changes the IMEI for a generic one that probably starts with "0049". If that's your case, we can try two things:

  1. Flashing a new firmware

Quite simple. We just need to flash a Samsung firmware stock. We will find them in SamMobile, in the firmware section, where we introduce our model and select one from the list. Once downloaded, we'll need the Odin program to flash it.

Here I explain the general procedure, valid for any Samsung firmware and device. Before you start, it is always a good idea to make a backup.

  1. Restart your smartphone in Download Mode. To do this you have to turn it off and restart it by pressing Volume down + Home + On/Off at the same time. In the window that appears, accept by pressing volume above.
  2. Open Odin and connect the phone via USB to your computer. Wait till Odin recognizes him.
  3. Unzip the firmware you downloaded from SamMobile.
  4. In the AP box, add the file that starts with AP.
  5. In the BL box, the one that starts with BL (if necessary).
  6. In CTH, the one that starts with CTH (if necessary).
  7. In CSC, the file that starts with CSC (if necessary).
  8. Make sure the re-partition box is NOT checked.
  9. Press Start and wait a few minutes.
  10. ROOT (more complicated process)

If you are very new to the world of Android, what I am going to explain below may sound like Chinese to you. First of all we need to be root and a terminal emulator for Android. Here you have the download link:

Now all you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Put Airplane Mode on your phone.
  2. Delete the files nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5, which you will find in /data/radio.
  3. Copy nv_data.bin from /factory/ to /data/radio/.
  4. Change the file permissions and layout through the Root Explorer application (or similar). For it, we only have to maintain pressed on the name of the file and the options will appear to us.
  5. In the emulator application we introduce the following commands:
    1. chmod 700 /factory/nv_data.bin
    2. chown radio.radio /factory/nv_data.bin
    3. chmod 700 /data/radio/nv_data.bin
    4. chown radio.radio /data/radio/nv_data.bin

When finished, restart the phone and exit Airplane Mode. Check if your IMEI has changed by re-entering the code "*#06#". If the result has been satisfactory, it only remains for us to see if the SIM card works.
